Auditions

Who can join?

We hold regular auditions at the beginning of each semester. The Wind Ensemble is open to both any undergraduate and graduate students of Columbia University who play wind, brass, or percussion instruments! We also accept community and faculty members as space allows.

Fall 2026 Auditions are now open! They will be via video submission and are due by Thurs, Sept 17, 11:59PM.

Audition Requirements

For your audition, you will be playing provided excerpts that will be released on the date mentioned above. The primary focus of the audition is to gauge the player’s grasp of the fundamentals of ensemble playing, such as tone quality, rhythmic accuracy, intonation, musicality, and technical facility. The audition is also a chance for the conductor and members of the Executive Board to meet the musician and get a sense of his/her musical background and reliability.
