Auditions

Who can join?

We hold regular auditions at the beginning of each semester. The Wind Ensemble is open to both any undergraduate and graduate students of Columbia University who play wind, brass, or percussion instruments! We also accept community and faculty members as space allows.

Spring 2025 auditions are now live! Auditions will be via video submission and are due Wednesday, January 28th at 11:59pm. Feel free to reach out to us with any questions!

Audition Requirements

For your audition, please prepare a short section of music (about 2-3 minutes) that best reflects your playing ability. The primary focus of the audition is to gauge the player’s grasp of the fundamentals of ensemble playing, such as tone quality, rhythmic accuracy, intonation, musicality, and technical facility. The audition is also a chance for the conductor and members of the Executive Board to meet the musician and get a sense of his/her musical background and reliability.
